2007 Letter from the President
Dear T.F. Torrance Theological Fellowship Members,
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I can hardly believe that we are in our fourth year of official operation. You're hearing from me again because, as you can read in the attached Minutes of our Annual Meeting for 2006, for the sake of continuity it was decided that my term should be extended for one more year before appointing a successor. That I was happy to do.
Please do read through the Minutes to follow up on our business items and to anticipate our future doings.
One of the most dramatic developments this past year has been of the online website. We have had literally hundreds of unique visits a month checking out our site. Sixty percent of them are new. Forty percent are returning folks. We've had visitors from Australia, Canada, the UK, the Philippines, Singapore, Russia, the Netherlands, and Germany.
We now have more than 100 members, and growing a little at a time: two or three a month. You will also note at following the recommendation of members at our meeting, we have put up a donation button on the website. We are now asking each member to make a $10.00 donation (non-tax deductible) per year to cover the expenses of our organization and to make new services possible. Could I ask you to go and check out the website and make your annual donation? If you're curious you can see our expenses in the Treasurer's report.
The next aspect of development is for us to solicit and publish peer-reviewed articles in our online journal: Participatio, The Journal of the T.F. Torrance Theological Fellowship. If you are interested in submitting an article that serves the mission of the Fellowship please contact me or any of the Executive Committee Members. We should be able to review articles in a month or so.
You will also find online the text of the excellent presentation given at our annual meeting by Dr. Victor Shepherd, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Tyndale Seminary, Toronto titled, “Thomas F. Torrance and the Homoousion of the Holy Spirit.” Over 40 of us enjoyed hearing and interacting with Victor of this interesting and important matter of Torrance's trinitarian theology.
If you know of a church or other institution that would like to host a weekend conference featuring a theme from the theological work of the Torrances, and use some of our members as presenters, please let me know. The conference hosted at First Presbyterian Church, Baton Rouge and pastor Gerrit Dawson was a model of how such a theological vision can encourage and enliven a congregation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We want the fellowship to serve as a speaker's bureau for such events.
Finally, let me invite you all to join us for our next annual meeting in San Diego, California, this coming November 16th, Friday in conjunction with the AAR/SBL meetings. We anticipate the time will be 1:00 pm for our business meeting and 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm for our presentation and discussion. We are in final discussion with a potential speaker. Watch our webpage (www.tftorrance.org) for the complete announcement. Hope to see many of you there.
Thanks for your continuing support and prayers.
Yours in Christ Jesus,
Gary W. Deddo
